As a Counselor in Training (CIT), I demonstrate self-reflection and self-care by regularly assessing my psychological fitness and emotional well-being. I take time to reflect on my thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to gain a deeper understanding of myself and my needs. This self-awareness helps me identify areas where I might need additional support or growth, allowing me to make informed decisions about how to care for myself.
I actively engage in activities that promote my overall well-being, such as practicing mindfulness, meditation, journaling, or participating in hobbies that bring me joy and relaxation. These practices help me foster openness and self-acceptance, strengthening my relationship with myself. I also prioritize maintaining holistic wellness by balancing mental, emotional, relational, and professional aspects of my life. For example, I set healthy boundaries, nurture meaningful relationships, and seek opportunities for personal and professional growth.
When I recognize that I need additional support, I am not hesitant to seek individual therapy or counseling. I understand that seeking help is a proactive step in managing stress, processing emotions, and overcoming challenges. Overall, through ongoing self-reflection and intentional self-care, I demonstrate my commitment to my mental health and personal development. This not only helps me grow as an individual but also allows me to be more effective, empathetic, and resilient in my roles and relationships.

ACA Code of Ethics Standard C.2.g
This standard emphasizes that counselors, including CITs, must recognize their own psychological health and engage in self-care strategies to maintain their well-being. Maintaining psychological fitness is essential to prevent burnout, compassion fatigue, and impaired judgment, which can compromise ethical practice and client care.
Standard C.2.g: Recognize the importance of self-care and take steps to maintain their well-being and professional functioning.
