Counselor Identity Development

"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change."
— Carl Rogers

My development as a counselor has been shaped through diverse internship experiences and a clear focus on cultivating my counselor identity aligned with ethical standards and GCU values. I have conducted individual, family, and group therapy with diverse populations, actively engaging in supervision and case consultations to refine my ethical decision-making and professional conduct. Leading psychoeducational groups and community outreach initiatives has strengthened my advocacy skills and cultural humility. Engaging in crisis intervention, risk assessment, and multicultural counseling has deepened my understanding of ethical practice and social justice.

To continue my growth, I plan to participate in ongoing professional development—attending workshops, seminars, and conferences such as the Arizona Multicultural Counseling Conference—to enhance my knowledge of multicultural and ethical counseling practices. Supervision and mentorship will remain integral to my journey, helping me navigate complex ethical dilemmas and foster a culturally responsive approach. My commitment to continuous learning and reflective practice is central to developing a strong, ethical counselor identity dedicated to advocacy, cultural humility, and client-centered care.
